Emeryville Taiko in action

Newsletter - June 2009

We've moved!
We are delighted to announce that we have a new long-term home in Emeryville for our dojo. Thanks to our partnership with the Emery Unified School District we have moved into the Shop B space at the Emery Secondary School, 1100 47th Street at San Pablo Avenue. We are excited about the space and the potential for expanding our programs for Emeryville residents and students.

Life on the road
We'd like to thank everyone who saw our taikomobile on the shoulder of CA 101 after the Morgan Hill taiko festival and stopped to make sure we were all right. We'd especially like to thank our tow truck driver, Scott McCurry. Sensei said "It's the most fun I've had being towed!"

Taiko in Turkey!
Emeryville Taiko Founder and Artistic Director Susan Horn traveled to Turkey in May to help a former student start that country's first taiko group. Along the way she visited other taiko colleagues in Greenwich, England. As taiko ambassador, she found that Emeryville Taiko's challenges - such as finding practice space, acquiring drums, and having reliable drum transportation - are common to groups all over the world.
