Call and Response

Emeryville Taiko Students Answer "What Do You Love About Taiko?"
"The passion and excitement of playing the rhythms; the camaraderie of playing with fellow drummers." Vicky Jennings
"The beat of the drums, performing as an ensemble, making our audiences smile, and the cultural connection to my Japanese ancestry." Keith Nomura
"What I love about taiko is the personal challenge. It requires everything I'm not "natural" at and have to work hard to bring out. I feel stretched and stimulated after every class and performance." David Lingren
"I love that you get to summon up all your energy and let it out vocally and physically in ways that create beautiful rhythms and images in an ensemble of people. Collective yelling, singing, beating things, and creating music and dance all at the same time - what more could you want?" Cecilia Lucas
"It's the perfect combination of music and activity." Adrian Martin.
"I like that we're playing as a team, it's active (sometimes athletic), and I just love rhythms." Richard Dresser
"I love how the drumbeat resonates in my bones. It gets my blood pumping and my energy moving, and even if I'm having a bad day, after playing I feel alive and triumphant." Julie Cummins
"What don't I love about taiko?" Matthew Kertesz
